Spore Creature Creator

Electronic Arts sent me an advance preview of the Spore Creature Creator which is part of the highly anticipated new game Spore, a “massively single-player” game being developed by Maxis based on the evolution of species. It is was designed by Will Wright, the legendary game designer behind Sim City and The Sims.

I’ve been invited to create my own creature, along with some other people, as part of the “Sporelebrity” contest which is tied of the upcoming launch of Spore, scheduled for release in September. Stay tuned for more details.

Spore Creature Creator Tutorial

A free trial edition of Spore Creator Creator will be available for download on June 17th. Here’s a Creature Creator screenshot of “Klatu”, one of the sample creatures.

Spore has uploaded a few tutorials showing how the Spore Creature Creator works.

UPDATE 1: Kevin Rose was also invited to participate in the contest and has already uploaded his Spore creature to YouTube. The contest has not officially started yet, but details will be announced soon.

UPDATE 2: Here’s a Test Drive video of “Ika Zaru” the Spore creature that I created using the Spore Creature Creator Tool.

UPDATE 3: The trial version of the Spore Creature Creator is now available.

UPDATE 4: The Spore Vote Contest is now open.

Dude, Klatu… I love it. A probably reference to Klaatu from TheDay the Earth Stood Still… or possibly Klaatu from Star Wars.

Okay, so I get choosing you and Kevin Rose to post celebrity creatures, but Carlos Santana? Mandy Moore? WTF? Who chose these celebs? And why haven’t these been more publicized? The only place I’ve seen anything about this is on Spore Illustrated, and there aren’t even very many people on that community yet. Why would you start a content if you aren’t going to publicize it? And why don’t many of the celebs have creatures posted yet? Lame.
