Skullphone

An entity simply known as Skullphone has been altering Clear Channel digital billboards in Los Angeles, by hacking into the computer that runs the billboards and inserting the Skullphone images between the ads.

Here’s more coverage from Curbed LA and Supertouch.

Here’s a video by harrybeee2011 of one of the skullphone billboards.

UPDATE: Kevin Poulsen of Wired is reporting that these were actually paid ads.

Note that these were not hacked. Clear Channel says they were paid ads.

Tinfoil-hat crew will say they are claiming this to avoid admitting they were hacked, but Occam’s razor says otherwise.
