Conan O’Brien Films an Episode of ‘Conan’ in Cuba, The First American Talk Show Host to Do So Since the 1962 Embargo

Recently, Conan O’Brien filmed an episode of his show Conan in Cuba. O’Brien is the first American talk show host to film in Cuba since the 1962 United States embargo began. In the opening of the episode, O’Brien states his goal for the episode is to, “Meet people and make friends,” which he tries to do as he travels the country sampling rum, learning to dance, and speaking to people he meets along the way.

A recent New Yorker piece highlights the trip and O’Brien’s unique perspective on the relationship between the United States and Cuba now that relations have been normalized.
