Castells, Creating Human Towers In Tarragona, Spain

In “Castellers,” photographer Mike Randolph shows us Spanish castells, breathtakingly tall towers made entirely of people (Castellers), at a festival in Tarragona, Spain. These truly impressive feats of teamwork, strength, and bravery are the product of traditional festivals in the Catalonia region. And yes, castells do occasionally topple back to earth (Randolph shows us a number of spectacular collapses beginning at the 1:40 mark.)

Kuriositas has a nice post on castells with more photos, an explanation of how they are constructed, and their origins.
