Avenging Unicorn Play Set

Avenging Unicorn Playset

Last weekend Lori and I stopped by Archie McPhee, the wonderfully bizarre toy and novelty distributor, whose main store and annex are located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The place was packed and they have a bunch of new stuff since my last time there (here are photos from that trip). By far one of my favorite new items is their “Avenging Unicorn Play Set” which comes with 4 intercangable horns that can be used to impale a mime, a new age/hippie girl and a businessman. I noticed on Flickr that Brian Walsh recently came across an Avenging Unicorn Play Set as well at a store in Oregon.

Everyone wants an imaginary unicorn friend that they can call forth to smite their enemies. The Avenging Unicorn Play Set has everything you need to use the power of the unicorn to rid your life of irritations. Put the posable, 3-3/4” tall, hard vinyl unicorn on a flat surface and then impale one of three 3-1/8” tall, soft vinyl figures included (businessman/boss, new age lady and mime). Also includes four interchangeable horns (classic spiral, chrome, glow and pearlescent).

Could this be Boing Boing’s ultimate Unicorn Chaser?

If playing with dangerous unicorns is your thing, Archie McPhee also has a “Good vs. Evil Unicorns Play Set” as well as a “Cold War Unicorns Play Set”.

St. Vincent suggests that the above “Nice T Shirt” comic by The Perry Bible Fellowship may have been the inspiration for the Avenging Unicorn Play Set.

This is one of those unique combinations of fairy magic and violence that makes Seattle (and the whole Northwest, San Fran included–barely) so charming

We used the “good” unicorn to star as Ted Haggard in our photocomic about his downfall. It’s an excellent actor!
