Wonder Women, The Untold Story of American Superheroines

Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines is a film directed by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan that “traces the fascinating evolution of Wonder Woman and introduces audiences to a dynamic group of fictional and real life superheroines.” The film premieres Saturday March 10, 2012 at 7 pm as part of SXSW Film Festival (showing at Alamo Lamar B).

From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s, to the blockbusters of today, WONDER WOMEN! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society’s anxieties about women’s liberation.

To date we’ve interviewed many articulate and dynamic women such as activists Gloria Steinem and Shelby Knox, actresses Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) and Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman), and punk rock star Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill & Le Tigre), as well as many others who offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male-dominated superhero genre.
