Weird Al & The Lonely Island Pose Together in GQ’s Comedy Issue

2 Generations of Comedy Musicians Meet

Weird Al Yankovic and The Lonely Island guys, two generations of musical parody icons, have joined forces in Los Angeles to participate in a funny photo shoot for the new June 2013 comedy issue of GQ Magazine. For fun, the guys at The Lonely Island even dressed like Weird Al, complete with donning wigs that look like his signature locks.

The week it had to happen, the Lonely Island guys—Andy Samberg, 34; Akiva Schaffer, 35; and Jorma Taccone, 36—were finishing up an album, planning a summer tour, filming two music videos, and tending to their own various writing/directing/Digital Shorts-ing/Girls-ing gigs. They were as busy as three guys who write and perform joke songs for a living could possibly be. “We had all this stuff lined up,” says Taccone. But to spend a day with their comedy hero, “we’ll cancel fucking everything.”

Weird Al, meanwhile, was in Hawaii. On vacation. Resting up before a summer tour of his own (the Alpocalypse tour) and the release of his second children’s book. But when the call came, he left his vacation, flew to Los Angeles, took some pictures with The Lonely Island, and then flew right back to Hawaii, like a bawse.

Here is a behind the scenes look at all of the shenanigans that took place during their photo shoot:
