U.S. Presidents, Public Figures, Comedians Recite Gettysburg Address for Learn the Address Project

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, filmmaker Ken Burns and a group of partner organizations have launched Learn the Address, a nationwide project to encourage every American to recite Lincoln’s historic speech, record it on video, and upload it to the Internet. American public figures of all stripes, from presidents to comedians, have submitted videos. The videos range from stately (President Obama and President Carter), to touching (Gabrielle Giffords), to comical (Stephen Colbert). There’s also an interesting video in which Louis C.K. and Jerry Seinfeld discuss the meaning of the address. You can submit your own Gettysburg Address video here. In spring 2014 Ken Burns will be releasing The Address, a documentary about a school that encourages its students to memorize the Gettysburg Addresss as an annual tradition.
