‘Tuning ’77’, An Audio Supercut of an Entire Year’s Worth of Grateful Dead Live Instrument Tuning

Tuning '77

Atlanta artist Michael David Murphy combed through live Grateful Dead recordings housed at the Internet Archive to create “Tuning ’77″, an hour-and-a-half long supercut of the band tuning its instruments during live shows in 1977. Murphy discussed the piece in an interview with Good Day Sacramento and another with photographer Blake Andrews.

It’s kind of a conceptual art piece — an audio piece that’s really about the idea of what does it sound like when no music is happening.
