Matthew Inman of the web comic The Oatmeal suggested that Tumblr should have a downtime mascot like Twitter’s Fail Whale, so he created the Tumbeast for them to use. Tumblr took him up on his suggestion and is now using the Tumbeast on their downtime error page.
