Touching Commercial for UK Supermarket Sainsbury’s Dramatizes the World War I Christmas Truce of 1914

This touching commercial by UK supermarket chain Sainsbury’s dramatizes the Christmas truce, an unofficial ceasefire that occurred at Christmastime in 1914 during World War I. The truce was instigated by groups of British and German soldiers, who temporarily ceased hostilities and crossed no man’s land to jointly bury casualties, sing Christmas carols, exchange gifts, and even play soccer together. The ad was created in partnership with UK armed forces charity The Royal British Legion. Sainsbury’s is now selling a chocolate bar featured in the commercial, with profits to go to The Royal British Legion.
