Tom Scott Explains How a Part of Bristol, England Came to Reside Permanently in New York City

“I’m standing on a bit of England right here in New York City.”

In the most recent episode of “Things You Might Not Know,” host Tom Scott (previously) explains how parts of Bristol, England came to create a permanent part of New York City during World War II, including a plaque at “Waterside Plaza” on the East River that matches one on the Lower Avon in Bristol.

Some folks might leave their heart in San Francisco, but over at Waterside Plaza in New York, there’s a much more real and physical souvenir: a part of Bristol, a port town in the south west of England, that literally makes up the foundation of a development near the East River.
