The Science Behind How Movies Impact the Brains of Viewers

In the latest episode of the PBS Digital Studios series BrainCraft, host Vanessa Hill takes a look at the science behind the ways in which different films affect the brains of viewers. Long utilized by cinematic masters like Alfred Hitchcock, scientists have begun to take a closer look at the phenomenon.

Neuroscientists are looking at how we watch movies to figure out which styles of filmmaking have maximum control over viewers’ brains. It’s popularly being called “neurocinema.”
