Online media marketplace Pond5 has opened The Public Domain Project, a resource for free public domain media content, including videos, photos, audio clips, 3D models, and various other formats. The initial offering includes 80,000 pieces of media, ranging from stock photos to symphonies.

Highlights include the iconic George Méliès film A Trip to the Moon (1902), and footage from the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, World Wars I and II, Nasa rocket launches, and the International Space Station. There are also like 65,000 free photos, some of which go back to the turn of the century.
