The New York Wheel is a planned 630-foot-tall Ferris wheel currently under development in Staten Island. The giant wheel will include 36 passenger capsules that will accommodate a total of 1,440 passengers. A ride, consisting of a single rotation, will take an estimated 38 minutes. Upon completion the New York Wheel will exceed the height of the world’s largest Ferris wheel, the 550-foot High Roller in Las Vegas. However, the Dubai Eye, currently under construction in the United Arab Emirates, is expected to reach a height of 690 feet upon completion. The official groundbreaking for the New York Wheel is scheduled for April 16, 2015, and the wheel is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
