The New York Times Profiles Texas Courtroom Sketch Artist Gary Myrick

Filmmaker Ramtin Nikzad created a documentary short for The New York Times profiling Gary Myrick, a sketch artist who has been capturing courtroom cases for the Texas justice system for nearly 40 years.

We are watching human drama and the courtroom is definitely a theater. When you’re present in a room with a dramatic trial, there’s a feeling in that moment. I like to convey just how it feels in that moment in that one room.

The short follows Myrick through his ups and downs, as he struggles to survive in a profession made largely obsolete with the allowance of camera crews in the courtroom setting.
