The Melt, High Tech Grilled Cheese Chain Started By Flip Video Founder

Flip Video founder and entrepreneur Jonathan Kaplan is taking a new turn in the business world by launching the grilled cheese “casual eatery” chain, The Melt. Fortunately, he is taking his tech roots with him as the restaurant is not only equipped with European-designed equipment that allows the precise cooking of each grilled cheese in one minute flat but uses a (not released just yet) custom mobile ordering app “that allows customers to remotely place a meal order from their computer or mobile phone and pick it up”.

When ordered via the mobile application, the customer will receive a QR code on their smartphone that can be scanned at any restaurant location, allowing them to pay through their phones, skip the line, and pick up their freshly made order within minutes.

High-end chef, Michael Mina, is on “the company board to help with recipes”, according to 7X7. San Francisco and Palo Alto are the first cities to get this techified comfort food restaurant but, stay tuned, a total of 500 of them will be popping up nationwide over the next five years.
