The Hammock Hangout

The Hammock Hangout

Paul de Jong, our main Support Tentacle for Laughing Squid Web Hosting, is leaving for three weeks to build his art project in the desert for Burning Man. The project is called The Hammock Hangout, which Paul describes here:

The Hammock Hangout is a giant shade structure that will provide nearly 10,000 square feet of quality shade to the citizens of Black Rock City during the Burning Man festival. The structure is made using 36 12 foot eucalyptus tree logs and one giant 42 foot eucalyptus tree log as the center pole. The three giant parachutes create a passive solar structure that houses 90 hammocks and has lots of floor space for when all the hammocks are filled, which tends to happen a lot.

I’ve installed a new updated website just for this event. The two most prominent features of this site are the 2005 photo essay page and a WordPress blog. The 2005 photo essay section will be updated once or twice during the event so people who are not on the playa can see how the form is progressing. The Hammock Hangout WordPress blog uses photos from the 2005 photo journal to elaborate on things related to the Hammock Hangout. You can keep up to date with the HH blog by going to it directly or by subscribing to its feed.

Paul will be back on September 12th. If you are a Laughing Squid Web Hosting customer, you’ll be in good hands with our newest addition to the team, Jason Laskodi, who will be taking care of support issues while Paul is out.
