In 2014 the 5,800-year-old remains of a male and a female skeleton were discovered, locked in an embrace, in a cave in Southern Greece. The pair were uncovered in the Alepotrypa Cave, which served as a settlement between 6000 and 3200 B.C., when the cave collapsed. According to the Greek Ministry of Culture, the skeletons–dating from 3800 B.C.–may be the oldest double burial found to-date. The discovery was made during the Diros Project, an archeological endeavor by the Greek Ministry of Culture, The Field Museum, and Millsaps College.
