Storm chasing photographer Mike Hollingshead (previously) has created some truly stunning animated GIFs of storm cells and other large formations churning in the skies above midwestern America. Given Hollingshead’s creation process, which involves producing animation based on a still photo rather than a series of images, there’s some question as to whether these qualify as cinemagraphs, but the series is certainly incredible either way.
