Student Transcribes Music From Butt in ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch

Hieronymus Bosch Painting

Amelia, an Oklahoma Christian University student majoring in both information systems and music, was recently looking at the famous triptych painting The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch with a friend when they noticed a man on the right-hand panel with musical notes written on his butt. Highly amused, Amelia then transcribed these notes into modern notation and created a little sound clip that has been colloquially called “The Butt Song From Hell” — which is available for listen on her Tumblr.

The response to her amusement and subsequent transcription has been overwhelming.

I still can’t believe this took off like it did this is crazy??? Just wanted to let people know that there are indeed errors in the transcription and this is indeed not a very good recording (I threw this together in like 30 minutes at 1 in the morning,) but I’m working with the music department at my college to get the transcription more accurate!
