SQUID or Safe Quick Undercarriage Immobilization Device is the name for a series of non-lethal vehicle stopping systems developed by SQUID Technologies. The devices have a distinctly squid-like flair—The PIT BUL ensnares the target vehicle in a net while tire spikes deflate the front tires. The Nighthawk can rapidly extend a tentacle of tire spikes across a roadway and can retract almost as quickly. Both systems are produced by Pacific Scientific, a company that specializes in “energetic materials.”
