Engineering students at San Jose State University are developing a self-balancing electric motorcycle that relies on spherical drive rather than conventional wheels. Two giant spheres allow the motorcycle to travel in any direction and even balance at a standstill (see a demonstration of the spherical drive system). The motorcycle is still a prototype, but the engineering team hopes to have it balancing and maneuvering at low speeds by the summer.
