Scientists Use High-Speed Cameras to Spot Raindrops Releasing Aerosols, Which May Cause Rain’s Earthy Smell

Scientists at MIT have utilized super slow motion video captured by high-speed cameras to demonstrate how raindrops release small amounts of aerosol as they hit porous surfaces. The aerosols released into the environment can contain viruses and bacteria and may also play a role in creating the earthy smell that occurs after rainfall.
