Rex Ray, a prolific San Francisco-based artist and graphic designer renowned for his psychedelic collage art and his striking concert posters, died February 9, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Ray, who was born Michael Patterson, gained notoriety initially through his concert and tour posters, which he created for The Rolling Stones, U2, Radiohead, and many other bands. In the early 1990s Ray began a prolific career as a fine artist, creating colorful, mind-bending collage art and paintings. Ray was 58.
