Researchers Create Massive Autonomous Robotic Jellyfish For Underwater Surveillance

Researchers at Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering have created Cyro, an autonomous robotic jellyfish that’s roughly the size and weight of a grown man, for the purpose of underwater surveillance. The 170-pound Cyro prototype and a smaller, hand-sized “RoboJelly” robot were created as part of a project funded by the US Navy. Cyro is modeled after the lion’s mane jellyfish, and measures five feet and seven inches long.
