Raindance, An Art Installation That Uses Water Jets to Create Music

Stanford-based electronic media artist Paul DeMarinis created “Raindance,” an art installation that uses pulsating jets of water to make music. The effect is activated when the viewer carries an umbrella underneath the jets–the umbrella itself becomes a giant speaker. DeMarinis first built “Raindance” in 1998 but the piece has been exhibited numerous times, including at Ars Electronica and in the case of this video, at the 2008 Mois Multi 9: le Festival d’arts multidisciplinaires et electroniques, in Quebec.
