Percussionist Plays Unspooled Reel-to-Reel Tape Like a Drum to Achieve a Unique Electronic Sound

Tape Tapping Demonstration

Yoshida Haruka of the Open Reel Ensemble showed how he plays unspooled reel-to-reel tape like a drum to achieve a unique electronic sound. Known as “tape tapping”, this specific art requires good percussion skills and a good supply of electromagnetic tape.

When you tap the tape, it sounds like a electro-magnetic drum.
