Paper Head Sculptures That Can Be Stretched Into Bizarrely Deformed Shapes

Stretchable Paper Sculptures by Li Hongbo

Chinese artist Li Hongbo has created a series of busts that look solid but can be stretched into bizarrely deformed shapes. The secret to their curious stretchability is their construction—each sculpture consists of thousands of sheets of paper that extend like an accordion when the sculpture is manipulated. Li’s sculptures are the subject of a solo exhibition, “Tools of Study,” at the Klein Sun Gallery in New York City through March 22, 2014.
