Nissan Showcases a LEAF Electric Car With Paint That Glows in the Dark for Eight to 10 Hours After Sundown

Nissan in Europe is showcasing a new paint job on its LEAF car that absorbs UV energy to glow in the dark for eight to ten hours after sundown. The car’s color, which is being shown off to highlight the connection between the all-electric vehicle and home solar conversions, is made of a “secret formula” of organic materials, including strontium aluminate, which will allow the glowing to continue for up to 25 years.

Research revealed recently by Nissan showed that 89 percent of LEAF owners charge their cars at home overnight. Although solar panels do not store energy or provide it outside of daylight, any leftover power generated during the day is fed back into the national grid and homeowners can get a Government payment for it, meaning that the overnight charge is already paid for.
