New Software Can Extract Editable 3D Objects From a Photo

At the 2013 SIGGRAPH computer graphics conference back in July, a research team unveiled 3-Sweep, an imaging software that lets the user easily extract an object from a photograph and then edit it as a 3D model. In this demo video, the software is used to extract, rotate, and modify a variety of objects in photographs, from a simple vase to a telescope. The 3-Sweep researchers are: Tao Chen, Zhe Zhu, Ariel Shamir, Shi-Min Hu, and Daniel Cohen-Or.
