‘New Moon’, A Giant Interactive Illuminated Moon Made of 5,500 Light Bulbs

New Moon Illuminated Sculpture

In the interactive sculpture NEW MOON, a giant illuminated globe made of about 5,500 burnt-out light bulbs is suspended in mid-air. Viewers can alter the illumination, through a wheel installed beneath the globe, to emulate different phases of the Moon. NEW MOON was created by Canadian artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett and commissioned by the Lexington Art League. It was installed in a public plaza in Lexington, Kentucky in 2014.
