NEMO33 is a diving center located in Brussels, Belgium that houses the deepest indoor swimming pool in the world. With a maximum depth of approximately 33 meters (108 ft), the pool contains 2.5 million liters of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water that is held steady at a temperature of 33 °C (91.4 °F). At the depth of approximately 10 meters (33 ft), you will find tons of cool passageways and simulated underwater caves to explore. There are underwater windows throughout the pool that allow visitors from the outside to look into the pool at various depths. With hopes of recreating the diving conditions of Bora Bora in Brussels, the complex was designed and opened in 2004 by engineer / diving expert John Beernaerts as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film production facility.

We previously wrote about NEMO33 back in 2006, but wanted to revisit the subject so that we could bring a little more information to the table and show off more of the amazing photos and videos taken by divers enjoying their experience at the largest, and diver friendly, pool on Earth.

Do you know why our name is NEMO33? NEMO is the name of the Captain of the Nautilus, the hero of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea“, the famous novel by Jules Verne. Captain Nemo is a visionary who created a new civilization under the sea, far from the wars of men. Why 33? – Because 33 ° C is the ideal temperature to learn to dive. We can sit for hours without feeling the cold! – 33m depth is ideal for training in all aspects of the dive without being too deep! – And finally, it is a sacred number…
