“Mr. Gold” is a short documentary by Orlando photographer Brian Carlson that follows the story of Jose Melendez, a 21-time felon who found his calling as the character Mr. Gold, a street promoter for a local jewelry store. In the short, Melendez describes how the simple act of tipping his gold top hat at on-coming traffic helped him turn his life around.
People are taking this character to heart, and I need to embrace it. That’s when I knew I was where I needed to be at.
