Motos4Mongolia, A Fundraiser To Provide Mongolian Rangers With Desperately Needed Motorcycles

Raise money to provide motorcycles for the rangers at the Lake Hovsgol National Park to chase off poachers and illegal mining operations.

San Francisco artist and activist Anton Berteaux, a longtime motorcyclist, will be traveling to Lake Hovsgol, Mongolia in July 2014 to provide the rangers patrolling the area with new motorcycles and to provide them with the tools (literally and figuratively) to maintain the vehicles.

Over the past few months I have been moved by the beauty of Mongolia and one of the last, ancient largest freshwater lakes in the world, Lake Hovsgol. The Mongolians call this body of water “The Mother Sea”. The Lake and the wildlife park around it are unique on this planet, and under threat from poachers and illegal developers tooling around in jeeps and 4×4’s. The park is patrolled by rangers, mostly on horseback or decrepit old motorcycles. The rangers need better transportation to do their job catching poachers and illegal developers, and the motorcycles they have are old, tired and inadequate. The horses are even less effective.I am raising funds to buy two motorcycles and gear. On my own dime, I am going to go to Mongolia and deliver them to the rangers in person and train them in offroad riding techniques and motorcycle maintenance.

The project is accepting funds through Indiegogo and for a $50 donation, Anton is offering a very unique perk.
