Motorhead Play a Slowed Down Version of Ace of Spades for Beer Ad

Heavy Metal legends Motörhead perform an unplugged, slowed down version of “Ace of Spades”, their most famous song, in this ad for French beer Kronenbourg 1664 from last year.

On October 4th 2010, we took Lemmy and his band Motörhead to a French bar. Here, inspired by the laid back atmosphere and a slow, cold Kronenbourg 1664, they played their legendary manic song, The Ace of Spades, at half the normal speed.

“Inspired” may be pushing it. I think they did it for the money, and probably free beer. “Ace of Spades” has been in commercials before including ones for Golden Wonder Pot Noodle and IKEA. In this making-of video you see the band has trouble playing their signature tune at a moderate pace, as Lemmy says “I don’t want it fast, I just want it less slow”.

By the way, if “Kronenbourg” sounds German, not French, the reason is it originates from the Alsace region of France, which borders Germany. In fact “the historical language of Alsace is Alsatian, a regional German language, today most Alsatians speak French”.
