Mophie, the company that makes the popular portable batteries for mobile devices, has taken a page from Alpine historical legend and partnered with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to dispatch adoptable St. Bernard dogs equipped with batteries to rescue SXSW attendees whose mobile devices are dying. In order to qualify, attendees must send a snapshot of their dying battery to the company’s Twitter account and Mophie will tweet back to the chosen attendee with a link providing information. The dogs will also be available at the mophieRescue Lodge on the corner of 5th Street and Trinity Street in Austin, Texas.

Inspired by tales of St. Bernard rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps, the mophieRescue Team will dispatch multiple dogs from the mophieRescue Lodge each hour starting 12pm through 6pm on March 13th, 14th and 15th. All dogs are equipped with mophie power reserve units for those in need of extra juice for their mobile devices. In addition to saving users from low battery life, mophie will work with the St. Bernard Rescue Foundation to drive awareness around St. Bernards who are in need of homes and loving families.
