MIT Researchers Have Developed a Material That Changes Between Soft and Hard States on Command

Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed an intriguing material that can change between soft and hard states on command. The phase-changing material, consisting of a wax-coated foam lattice, softens when exposed to heat, and hardens at room temperature. It is intended for use in soft and deformable robots. Lead researchers Anette Hosoi and Nadia Cheng discuss the material and demonstrate prototypes in this MIT video.
