Man Pours Molten Aluminum Into a Lava Lamp, Gets Wax Everywhere

TheBackyardScientist (previously) recently decided to pour molten aluminum into a lava lamp to see what might result. As it turns out, the glass bottom of the lamp wasn’t made to withstand these kind of conditions, and it ultimately dumped wax all over the place.

I melted down about a pound or two of aluminum and poured it into a lava lamp. I had 4 cameras to capture the carnage, but only two turned out worthwhile. Aluminum melts at 1,221°F (660.3°C), so this stuff was HOT. I knew it would go down to the bottom and crack the glass, but I was not expecting the aluminum to cool in a neat shape.
