LucasArts Video Game Development Shutdown by Disney

LucasArts

Game Informer has reported that Disney has shutdown operation of LucasArts, the game publishing arm of Lucasfilm. Disney acquired Lucasfilm in late October 2012 and announced plans for a Star Wars episode 7 film. According to Wired, the internal development of LucasArts’ games like Star Wars 1313 will cease immediately and layoffs have occurred. LucasArts has offices in both San Francisco and Singapore.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” read a statement issued by Lucasfilm. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization.”
