KQED Series ‘Deep Look’ Explores Pygmy Seahorses, Masters of Camouflage

A recent episode of the new series Deep Look by KQED in San Francisco looks at pygmy seahorses and how they have mastered camouflage, blending almost perfectly with sea fan coral. There are two types of sea fan coral where pygmy seahorses live, orange and purple, and until recently it was unknown whether pygmy seahorses sought out coral that matched their color, or if the sea horses changed their own color to match the coral. Recent research by the California Academy of Sciences shows it to be the latter.
