The Chuo Shinkansen, a maglev (magnetic levitation) train undergoing going trials in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan hit a top speed of 311 miles per hour with 100 enthusiastic passengers onboard. The Central Japan Railway Company is currently testing the trains, which are capable of reaching speeds well above those capable by the country’s high-speed bullet trains.
