Guinness Book of Records Awards a Rescued Cat Named Merlin for Having the World’s Loudest Purr by a Domestic Cat

A petite tuxedo cat named Merlin, a rescue who lives with his human Tracy Westwood in Torquay, Devon, UK, has been awarded the Guinness World Record for having the loudest purr by a domestic cat. Merlin’s purr reached an amazing 67.8 dB(A). According to Westwood, Merlin’s purr can be a bit distracting.

Occasionally when he’s really loud I have to repeat myself. When you’re watching films you have to turn the telly up or put him out of the room, if he’s eating he’ll purr loudly. I can hear him when I’m drying my hair.
