Fuzzy Rainforest Caterpillar Looks Like Donald Trump’s Toupee

Conservation biologist Phil Torres and wildlife photographer Jeff Cremer discovered this unusual-looking caterpillar on a tour at the Posada Amazonas lodge in Peru. The fuzzy specimen is actually a flannel moth caterpillar or Megalopyge opercularis. After Torres and Cremer posted a photo online, it earned the nickname “Donald Trump caterpillar” because of its striking resemblance to the real estate mogul and television personality’s toupee. Despite the caterpillar’s fuzzy appearance, you wouldn’t want to pick one up — its fluffy fur contains venomous spines that can cause stings and severe skin irritations.
