Translucent ‘Ghost Apples’ Created by Ice That Formed Around Apples Hanging From a Tree

Michigan horticulturist Andrew Sietsema captured beautiful photos of “ghost apples” that remained hanging from a tree inside a frozen apple orchard. These incredible natural sculptures appear after ice forms around an apple and remain in place, even after the fruit has rotted and fallen out. More ice then forms over the area where the fruit exited and the shape stays in place for as long as the temperature remains below freezing.
