Frida Kahlo’s Closet Opened Publicly After 58 Years, Now on Exhibit

Some 58 years after her death, the closet of Frida Kahlo has been opened and its contents are currently on display at the Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City in an exhibit titled Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Dresses of Frida Kahlo. Univision News interviewed the exhibit’s curator Circe Henestrosa about what was found in the previously unopened closet. Univision News reports that “when Frida died, her husband, the famous muralist, Diego Rivera wouldn’t let anyone enter her closet for fear that they would ruin what was inside. When he died, their dear friend and patron, Dolores Olmedo, was charged with protecting the closet for 15 years after his death. But, then she decided to keep it locked even longer, until her death in 2002.” More of the story can be found at ABC News.
