Yesterday Freightliner introduced the Inspiration Truck, a prototype commercial semi-trailer truck that is capable of operating autonomously on public highways. Furthermore the truck is the first vehicle of its kind to receive a license to operate autonomously on an open public highway in the United States. The license, granted by the state of Nevada, allows the truck to drive autonomously on highways in the state with a couple of restrictions: it can only operate in daylight and in good weather, and driver must be in the vehicle to take over in certain circumstances.
