FootGolf, An Actual Organized Sport That is Essentially Golf With Soccer Balls

FootGolf is a sport that has been around in different countries for some time in one form or another: playing something akin to golf using soccer balls. However, it was only in November 2011 that the game became an official sport in the United States thanks to the founding of the American FootGolf League (AFGL), and the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG), of which the AFGL is part, was founded in 2012 with a current roster of 20 countries as official members.

The sport — which even includes a dress code similar to golf — is played using a regulation #5 soccer ball on courses with 9 or 18 holes. As of right now, there are 67 accredited courses on the North American continent, but most any golf course could be converted in the future thanks to the larger cups being located on the rough portion of a course rather than the traditional green where a regular golf hole is located.
