Face Sculptures Made From Pre-Loved Children’s Plastic Toys

Dear old Darth

Australian artist Freya Jobbins makes fantastic face sculptures from pre-loved children’s plastic toys, mainly dolls. She says her assemblages are a statement on society’s overspending on toys and they explore “the relationship between consumerist fetishism and the emerging recycling culture within the visual arts.” You can see all of her sculptures at her website.

…Working with plastic (pre-loved that is) to re-construct the humanoid form in her assemblages is Freya’s obsession. Having an A type personality, loving miniature detail and symetery and a new love of Greek mythology, results in some very provocative, humorous and disturbing works.
