1939 Newsreel of Fashion Predictions for the Year 2000

This vintage 1939 newsreel from the British Pathé archive is a fabulous (and very tongue-in-cheek) look at what designers predicted would be fashionable in the year 2000. It shows off some delightfully awful predictions like the male-catching net dress, a bridal veil made of clear plastic sheeting and an electric light head decoration to help the woman of the future “find an honest man”. At the end, we find out what the man of 2000 will don and, without giving it all away, it includes a place for “coin, keys and candy for cuties”.
